Conference Checklist for Teachers

 

Parent/Teacher conferences are an excellent opportunity for both parent and teachers to communicate about what is going on the classroom.

 

 

Be prepared:

 

Have Documentation- what facts do you have regarding how a student is progressing.  What data could you show parents.  What specifically is the child excelling at.

 

Have Standard/Benchmarks/Rubrics and long term assignments ready to show parents

 

What are you planning to do to and what have you already done for that students specific academic neeeds.

 

What could the parent do at home to help the student succeed.

 

How are you planning on communicate with the parent from the point of the conference on.

What communication are you already giving that the student/parent might not be aware of

(website, newsletter, phone messages, etc..)

 

Making sure that the parent knows that you are there for the student in terms of trust, developing strategies, and that you are a professional that could incorporate your knowledge to help them.

 

Is there any information from previous teachers that is significant

 

Work samples w/specific strength and weaknesses

 

No surprises at the conference...

 

State test scores and/or district scores as they align to the student growth.
